Do you think we would cease to exist by then? If we do exist, how do you imagine the technology? Do you think we'll look the same?

Gone.

Utterly gone, left the planet or so changed as to be unrecognizable if we don't destroy ourselves.

figure we went from ape more or less to Homo Spaiens Sapiens in 2.5 million years. So imagine that transition, changes since, times 500 times. 500 times as different now from ape.

There used to be a fantastic magazine called OMNI, sadly now out of print, that has essays like this, every month.

Perhaps holograms, stored in some huge matrix, outside the solar system, dimly powered by what passes for starlight outside the oort cloud.

Perhaps travelling in ships across the galaxy. Perhaps all gone, time-travelers, living back in the past, because we'd have all kind of evidence that the Sun was about to go Red Giant, so a program to live in history to preserve it would be put in place.

Perhaps just dead if nanotechnology gets out of control. One day a grey cloud of self-replicating nanobots just eats the planet and all upon it like a metallic virus. Scary.

Good question.

I think we will be extinct long before then.
Statistically that is the most likely scenario, as 99% of all species that ever existed are now extinct. Plus no species has been around for 1 billion years, least not a large organism. Too many natural catastrophes around the corner..

TOAST, DONE, NADDA, LONG GONE. Mankind dont have a chance unless we take up the Star Trek way of thinking and a billion is too long for any species to exist in its even basic form. Good luck I am switching dimensions.

dead, unless we stop polluting the atmosphere and learn better and cheaper ways to run our cars and things.
solar power is effective but the gas and oil companies will never allow that to become into mainstream use...if that was the case we would all be driving solar powered cars by now.
the hunger for power and human greed and carelessness will be our downfall.
More soon than 1 billion years if the way things are going now doesn't change.
