Just fling yourself over the railing headfirst. That would be considerably safer than trying to retrieve something from right under a bear's nose.

Open the cage of the bear. When the bear is out, you can step in and retrieve what you have dropped.

Get some fresh meat from the butchers and cover your self in it and pour cow blood all over your body believe me it's safe but before you do that mind adding me to your will in case something goes wrong
