New Mumbai is also called Navi Mumbai, and Vashi (not varshi) is part of Navi Mumbai. It is 30 kms away from Mumbai , a well- planned city in its own right, and it is a twin of Mumbai city. Navi Mumbai is India's only "NO SLUMS City". Vashi and Nerul are the best and the costliest node of this city. Vashi has grown to become the commercial heart of Navi Mumbai. In recent years, real estate prices in Vashi have risen, due in part to the creation of new businesses, and due to more businesses moving or expanding into Vashi from Mumbai. Vashi's reputation for being organized and self-sufficient, but not too large or crowded like "the big city", has led to a continued growth of its resident and commuter population.

Vashi is known to be a good place to live, while maintaining access to the city across the Thane creek. Despite its proximity to Mumbai proper, it is self-sufficient in practically all regards, and has its own thriving atmosphere for residents, shoppers and fun-seekers.
