I think anyone can understand democracy. But what's being done over there is merely the planting of a seed. It may take one or two generations before they embrace western politics in Iraq alone. In countries like Saudi Arabia, where the guy with the most oil holds the world in his hand, it'll take alot longer.

IN MY OPINION, they do allot of the Iranian revolutionary's were schooled in America , they know democracy and used it fully while here . but just like allot of the African leaders they are not concerned with democracy cause they would never be in power if it was up to a popular vote no one wants to live under tyranny that's why they are always extremely viscous with there own citizens cause its the only way they will stay in power

except for the Russians they seem very happy under Putin , that just makes me scratch my head in wonderment

Islam has elements of democracy in it. You may be surprised, but if you ignore Muslims and focus on the religion then yes Islam is compatible with democracy.

The religious leaders will not, they've been the force behind everything for a couple thousand years.
They live much better than the people, run the government and control the wealth.
The people would like to make some decisions on their own and pick their own leaders.

Islam can not. According to the religion Sharia is the only law.
Now the Muslims themselves may desire democracy but they will always be at odds with their religion for this.

regrettably, not every person in the western civilization seems to totally comprehend Islam, that's why many Muslims like myself are discriminated against. yet optimistically, in time, all faith could have the means to peacefully coexist in the entire international. :)
