I think religion lasts because people either want to believe they will see their loved ones after death... or are looking for a greater purpose to life... or so they can feel glad believing people who don't agree with them will go to hell.

Yea. Every religion is associated with myth. It's the easiest way to spread teachings within a civilization. The founders of a religion made up a story and told ppl tat it TRULY happened, a illustration of ideas such as fate & consequence, believe or die. It's very common that the follower or listener would dramatize the story to make it more interesting....So it's almost impossible to prove a story that happened thousands yrs ago. And ppl tends to love mysterious stuffs like UFO, Da Vinci Code, Vampire...As a result, these infalsifiable stories will last forever as long as they're passed on to the next generations

Logically speaking, the absence of something cannot be disproven. You can't disprove a negative. I think religion survives because human beings at their core want to understand why they exist. Human beings want an explanation for the world that surrounds us.

I agree with Orange, "I think religion survives because human beings at their core want to understand why they exist".

The core of our being demands that our lives mean something significant and without God, there is no purpose, no meaning, no point to life. We cannot bear that thought.
