Who would you side with? The US is too treacherous and will only cause more problems such as terrorism and just use you for good political standing. The EU is run by France and Germany so that is self explanitory. Russia's leader is pragmatic and super powerful. Perhaps doesnt need you anyway. China is far and also set to take over the US with the help of Japanese investment and EU bias over America for trading. But their interests lie in Asia far from the UK. Also the Commonwealth is breaking up because of stupidity of our leaders and being seen as a poodle nation for Bush. Not to mention you are not the elected leader for the nation but inherited it. You face severe anti EU, anti US feeling, rising inflation, 70% of small businesses move abroad because everything is too expensive. Who would you chose as your new best power pal?

I can only see building up a strong commonwealth again as a true way forwards, there would be over 50 countries together, and at last we would have a major say in things

No one is elected Prime Minister in the UK. The Queen asks whoever can command a commons majority to lead her government and who then becomes Prime Minister.
And where did you get the fictional figure of 70% of small businesses moving abroad?
Small businesses by definition are not international combines with the resources to move around the globe at will. If they have that ability they are not small businesses.
The USA particularly under Bush may deserve some criticism but of all foreign nations they are still our closest friends and allies.
As for the the EU we have only ourselves to blame for sitting on our backsides and letting the politicians get away with signing away our independence instead of which we should have been marching on Westminster in our millions.
If you want us to get out of the EU you have only one real choice and that is to vote for a UKIP candidate at every election, local or national.

I always liked the expression 'gormless' as at least to Scots it is so descriptive. I am also fond of 'glaikit' which I am sure Sarah S and Andrew M know exactly what that means and it applies to at least half of the members of the Houses of Parliament !.

Taxgrabber Brown is not only 'Gormless' - but he has also got a 'Head full of Sweety Wrappers'
After his performance with Tony Bliar this man will say and do anything to get what he thinks is his.
