If you were taking the pill and missed a pill or a couple of pills, would that "restart" your cycle and cause your body to ovulate again even if you continued to take your pill again? I heard two girls talking about this at work today and didn't know the answer - was just curious...

Birth control pills are made with hormones that make your body think you're pregnant so your body doesn't produce an egg (ovulate). If you take your pills correctly, then your body doesn't produce an egg at all. Depending where you were in your cycle when you miss it, not taking even just one pill can cause your body to produce and egg and the likelyhood of getting pregnant increases with each pill you miss. If you're already past the point in your cycle where you would have ovulated, had you not been on the pill (typically around day 14) then no your body won't "restart" it's cycle.

The pill takes over ovulation but if one misses a pill or two it can cause one to have what is called breakthrough bleeding which can act a lot like the period.

I would recommend that if anyone is noticing any ovulation type pain as a result of missing the pills that they see their doctor for further evaluation to see what they say.
