Well that's Aberdonians for you......I'm from there but thankfully moved away a few months ago....they are tight and stingy ( apart from me of course :0) ) and let me tell you......the seagulls there are vicious swines.........

Yes to the point you have made about the publicity value of the story. If he were a smart business man, he would give the bird the chips and take a picture of the bird taking them. Have the picture put on tee shirts and make a bigger profit, then wouldn't have to worry about a 50-65cent bag of chips. He would gain larger profits. Hats, banners etc. Thats the story of the dog and the bone. Greed.

Top of the morning to you Jim...I was reading about Sam last night, just before I went to bed or should I say this morning at 2.30am!! Though it was so funny - he's a local celeb and people will be flocking :) there to see him....stingy shopkeeper; mind you there might be a lot of clearing up after Sam, if you get my drift.

if I was the shopkeeper I would take all the money and hire a professional seagull assassin to take out Sam and his crew before they try to take over the city and get a piece of everyone's cheesy puffs

I suppose he has to earn some money out of it somewhere.
Do you remember that old Walkers crisp ad where the old man walks into the shop. He wants a packet of crisps but hasn't quite got enough. He asks the shopkeeper "You'll no be having a sale will ya".
:-)))

Don't you think...maybe....if the shopkeeper didn't take the money, that there wouldn't be any story here. It seems that is what encourages the people to continue to be interested...I don't know. Just a thought.

Possibly but if the people just buy them, then say for 'Sam'
Wonder if the sea gulls are still as friendly round the Marine-biology station at Millport?
