Yes, there are a lot of things that are more important than Harry Potter. Yes, global warming is one of them. But why are we not allowed to be obsessed with Harry? And why is it assumed that because we are obsessed with Harry, we aren't just as obsessed with other things? It is very possible (and probable) that many of us who are HP fans are also global warming activists, child welfare workers, PITA members, anti-war demonstrators, teachers, doctors, law enforcement officers.
I think that entertainment like the HP series is highly compatible with activism. After all, J.K. speaks against slavery, oppression, and bigotry in her series. At the same time, she promotes compassion, love, and the need to accept everyone as different, yet equal. There are definitely worse forms of entertainment than reading these books. After all, we could be feeding people to lions. (Oh wait, isn't that going to be a new reality show on Fox next season?)

A bunch(but a very big one) of kids going gaga over the last book of the series. Well since the series has always been popular it was quite natural that the reaction to the last book will be huge but sometimes it gets pathetically boring.
Moreover, Harry Potter is nothing absolutely original or new. Its just a clooection of used formulas. Of all the things the most appreciable thing is the author(not Potter). The way she has brought all the things together and created littkle controversies is truly applaudable.
Yes, true. There are far better books in the market than Potter which unfortunately have failed to create a stir - or an earthquake like Potter.

If global warming is really your concern, then go research it. What are you doing, wasting time asking questions about Harry Potter?
Really, though, Harry Potter has been around for a decade. People grew up with this - and the series is a great one. Why NOT read Harry Potter? It's much better than... watching TV or playing solitaire.

I know that the hype is ridiculous really, but this fantasy world of magic and wonderment is like an escape for some of us and especially children of all ages. There are other things more important I agree, but we are always surrounded by war, sickness and sadness and it is just great when you can forget all of the tragedy's of this world for just a little while and enjoy another world full of mysteries. I do feel this last book is not for children really though, but I know they want to find out what happens to their friend who they have grown to love by reading these books! I know I do and I am a lot older than a teenager!

Global warming is a problem. Harry Potter is a phenomenon that has brought happiness to millions of people. I don't think you can put them in the same category.

If you think that global warming is so important why are you sitting here wasting time on your computer asking stupid questions instead of studying about global warming.

The kind of people who read it have absolutely NO lives whatsoever, so the HP books are their entire life.
