I had this problem myself about a year ago. Not to worry - they eventually die off. My problem was I had a basket over my fridge with fruit in it - I am a shortie, and can't really see the basket and forgot it was up there! I ran the disposal well (lemon, bleach, or vinegar), cleaned out the basket, and double checked my refrigerator. Even after you locate the problem. it takes about a week or a bit longer before I noticed they were gone. I don't believe they enter through a door, but am not sure how they come. Once the source is gone, the fruit flies will disappear. Have you tried reaching into your disposal? Maybe the disposal is not clearing everything up in the skin? It seems like your problem is really your sink. Pour some bleach into your sink and let sit for 20 minutes. Then, run extremely hot water for 5 minutes. Maybe run the disposal for the last 2 minutes? Good luck!

You need to eliminate the source of the colony, which sounds like it is rotten fruit or food in your garbage disposal or plumping to the sink. Also check the fridge for any old food and make sure there are no pop cans left laying around.

Try and determine where they are getting in to the house from. Is there an opening in the screen door? Kids letting them in when they come in the door?

You might try buying a fly strip that they will be attracted to.
