We have a future Dem nominee for president right here asking questions on yahoo answers! WOW!
Your middle class, what taxes do you pay? Don't tell me sales tax!! I paid almost 25k in income tax last year and I'll have to pay more this year, why? Because I worked harder to make more money and good old uncle Sam now wants more! Punish the hard working, reward the least working that's the way of the American tax system.
You should move to china you would love it there!!!!

More or less. I appreciate being able to call the fire department and they show up, police too. I appreciate being able to drive down a paved road to work, and that there is an agency that keeps me safe at my job, and one that makes sure the products I buy are safe. It's good to know when those products aren't safe, when the kids in the neighborhood aren't safe. I benefit from welfare, and welfare to work programs, and rehab programs even though I've never used one myself, because desperate people do desperate things. I depend on agencies keeping track of contractors and medical professionals so I don't get scammed or killed. Departments that clean my drinking water and teach whoever wants to learn how to keep a green home and yard. I wonder how much I would pay for a vehicle to drive 20 miles to work down a dirt road, or for a house that will protect me from gangs of thieves, body guards to follow me into town so I could shop without getting mugged.
So it turns out I really like taxes because I'm greedy and selfish. If people who oppose taxes because they want to decide how to spend their money would total up the actual price I think they'd see they were getting a pretty good deal.
In Vietnam you can't get medical care until you pay, even if you are dying.
Each and every one of you that say you don't want to pay because you have no say vote right? Every election, local and federal, right?

No I don't like paying taxes but it is something I am obligated to do. I get no say in where they go. I hate that all programs and departments and others that want federal $$ get money and are not accountable for it. Someone needs to be auditing , auditing, auditing and reporting to the taxpayer some of the wasteful things these programs spend money on.
I hate to see programs wasting money and crying next year they need more over what they had the previous year, and if you dont think that is what happens then you have not ever worked in the government. This country is wasteful, and the govt leads the way. Guess it's easy when it didnt come from their pocket.

I feel similar to you. I know that there are lots of extras that I would like to have right now that I don't, but I also know that my basic needs are easily met. And I have no fear of a time when my basic needs won't be met. So I figure that as long as I am better off than other people in my community, a little bit of wealth reassignment is fine with me. If someone needs something more than I do, it should be my duty to help them. So I'm okay with taxes, but my problem with the system is just how ineffective taxes are at properly redistributing the funds that we pay as taxpayers.

Here is my personal opinion, I have learned that 98% of the mess pay taxes for the 2% of wealthy rich in this country. Now I see different trend as such 30% of the very wealthy pay no taxes. The middle class pick up the tap while the poor does not have to do anything. Well I do think the same thing like you but, everyone has to share the cost of paying taxes. Let's have a flat rate taxes for a change? For the sake of argrument I know it will never happens in America.

You obviously are not middle class. If you made even a decent income you'd realize that as you climb the ladder you gain nothing. The government tax structure is destroying the middle class, but the liberals will tell you it's Bush. Every dollar you make over 100K goes back to the government unless you make over 250K. Wake up. We already have socialism, but the people who work have no idea that they could easily not.

I prefer to donate to charities that fund services I find worthwhile on a personal level. The social service programs supported by tax payers are often abused or fraught with administration costs.

No you are not alone. In fact according to this poll you are part of a majority. Despite republicans trying to pretend Americans are a greed obsessed lot who will not get out of bed if they have to pay more than 33% income tax - this poll suggests most Americans support an increase in taxes for something they believe worthwhile.

I guess there needs to be a lot of people out there who love taxes and social programs. Personally, I think everyone should take care of themselves. Less government.

While I'm sure we can all find something we'd rather our taxes NOT go toward, for the most part I agree with you. I'm especially happy when taxes fund things that benefit the country as a whole, allowing us to consist of more prosperous and better educated people than we might otherwise.
EDITED TO ADD: I find it amusing how many people are still saying "You're the only one," despite how many of us have just agreed with you :-)
