a minor crime be given a jury trial, instead of a single judge do all the decisions of whether they are guilty or not.?? I have a very good friend serving five years in prison for a "forced" forgery charge. Her husband made her forge some checks, and he threatened her if she didn't do it.... He got off scott free, and she is serving time.???? Why couldn't she have a jury decide her fate.???

She didn't file an appeal, because they told her it cost money to hire a lawyer, which she didn't have. She only has about five more months to go, so she decided to just serve out the term, and be done with it.
I will be there, when she gets out.

She has divorced him....and when she gets out, she will go live with her sister...who, I am sure, will help her.

Was this her first offense? Wasn't there a court appointed lawyer to represent her? Something here doesn't sound right.
My daughter is an attorney and does many, many cases and pleas for people who can't afford to pay an attorney. She is paid by the state. I'm so very sorry your friend had to spend 5 years in jail. She should have been able to plea bargain and even if she still got sentenced she most certainly was entitled to appeals that would have drasticallly cut her time. It's hard to imagine that other inmates didn't inform her of her rights. Nevertheless, I wish her a bright future!

I don't know that there would have been any difference in the outcome. It's a shame that this happened. I hope she is free of the influence of her husband. I am sure you, as her good friend, will help her rebuild her life. God Bless

And how would the decision on her punishment been any different with a jury?

She signed the checks and evidently owned up to it. She should have said NO and left the idiot that suposedly forced her to do this. You do the crime, You do the time!

It was her choice not to have a jury trial.
