I'm a disabled vet and I was discharged in '97 and can completely relate to the stories of long wait times and so so service. When I would make an appointment for say 8am, it would be normal to wait 2 or more hours to be seen by the doctors. Eventually i just said screw it and got health insurance on my own and it's worth it.

I really don't understand if you are asking a question, or making a statement. That said, my father was a Vietnam vet. He hadn't felt well for quite some time when he finally went to the local VA. He had a cough that really was quite bothersome. It kept him awake at night, and also made it difficult for him to eat at times. He was told by the doctor there that he had acid reflux, and was given medication. After several visits back there, and his insisting there was a deeper problem, he was finally sent for further testing. Fast-forward a couple months, and he was several hours away at a much larger VA, having a lung removed. Yes, he was right, there was a more serious problem, lung cancer. They removed his lung, and told us all was well. He never felt better, the cancer was not gone, as we had been told. It had spread to his bones, brain, liver, and other lung. I can't help being angry. Personally, I believe that if he had been given better treatment, and been listened to, he would still be here.He died Oct. 5, 2005. He was only 56 years old. These men, and women fought for our country, and we can't even give them decent medical care? Something is a little wrong with that if you ask me. There is always money to send them here, there, and everywhere, but no money to treat them? Come on Washington....what's up?
Rest in peace Dad....We love you!!!!

I too; when my representative asked about the care for veterans I said it was adequate but something needed to be done to unglue the bureaucracy. However, as far as universal medical care goes, the VA system is par for the course. Government always cuts corners and avoids proper funding and it was the model used by Hillary with "her” plan a few years back that she wanted to force it on all Americans. Now if only the major veteran organizations like the American Legion or Disabled Veterans of America would support this lawsuit -----

My 88 year old dad is a vet. He wants to go to the VA hospital instead of a private care hospital. I worry about the care he receives but he insists on going. I do have to say, his Dr. talks to me. She just doesn't assume that I know things, she actually speaks to me and I do appreciate that. So maybe it depends on the luck of the draw who the Dr. is. They have taken good care of him, at least in TX.
