I'm taking a quick trip to San Diego tomorrow and we're going to the museum, are there any beaches close to that area, possibly walking distance?

No, the Midway is in the harbor; being as it's a harbor there are no beaches within walking distance. There are lots of interesting things within walking distance (Seaport Villege, Embarcadero Parks by the Convention Center, marinas by the Convention Center, the new statue of the kissing sailor (locals love it or hate it) right next to the Midway, and the statue garden adjacent to the kissing sailor statue that is a tribute to Bob Hope. A few blocks north in the harbor are the boats of the San Diego Maritime Museum (a real treat if you've never been). You can also catch the harbor excursion boats right next door to the Maritime Museum boats.

Still want to go to the beach but don't have a car? Here's the solution! There's a trolly stop right next to the Convention Center (which is right next to the Midway). Take the trolly to the Old Town stop only a couple of minutes away. At Old Town, switch to a Coaster train and go up to Solana Beach (where Fletcher Cove Beach is only about 2 blocks away) or to Encinitas (where the even better Moonlight Beach is about 5 blocks from the Coaster stop). If you have a car, take the 10-15 minutes to drive to Ocean Beach as the other poster suggested.

There are no beaches at least not walking distance nearby. You can take a cab from the city to Ocean Beach about 10 minutes away if that. The beaches are Ocean Beach, then Mission Beach and Pacific Beach going up the coast.

Have fun!

You can find places in that area to sit and enjoy the ocean, but not actual beaches. For a list and pictures of San Diego beaches visit http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/romantic-beaches-in-san-diego.html
