Hey I'm a high school girl and I'm in a band with 3 younger guys. All of them are really musically talented-and I think we have a lot of potential- but we're all really good friends and we end up goofing off during practices instead of practicing. So, our songs aren't sounding as great as they could, and the guys are getting discouraged. Any ideas for ways I could keep us motivated and focused during our 3-hour practices, and keep the guys encouraged?

What about planning a jam session? It does not have to be anything fancy. Just set up chairs, drinks, and snacks either where you practice or someone's back yard. It would be fun for your friends too!! You could make flyers to pass out. That would encourage them to work harder because they will want to look good for the session.

all I can think of (to clear the air) is to have a round table discussion. It all depends on how seriously you all consider your music to be. Voice you opinions in a mature manner, otherwise everything will just go down the drain.

Just keep telling them to stop goofing off and get to playing.

Tell them to focus because if they focus you guys could make it far with your band.
