Yes, it is called "targeted advertising".

From Yahoo! Privacy Policy:

Yahoo! does not provide any personal information to the advertiser when you interact with or view a targeted ad. However, by interacting with or viewing an ad you are consenting to the possibility that the advertiser will make the assumption that you meet the targeting criteria used to display the ad.

Now, isn't that just perfectly clear? ( rolls eyes )

It is not only possible, but highly likely. I have very, very little doubt about this.

I think Facebook, MySpace, and other online networking sites are very creepy, too.

Google likes to say it's collecting information to be helpful, but I think that anything has the potential to be used in a bad way.

A general rule of thumb is not to put anything on the internet, even if it seems like a private outlet, that you don't want everyone to know.

I think that Yahoo may be a "front", a fence if you will, for some sort of "alien" brain drain. Or mayhaps all those Yahoo execs, underlings and office staffers were "just so doggone bored" that one day someone said, "hey I'm on the computer all day anyway ' what the heck'. Lets invent something that we can do, all day, forever that makes us look "really busy" and at the same time provides jobs for all my friends, relatives and college buddies. Lets call it something that seems "educational" ya know "human experience" stuff. And there ya have it. Y/A.!!

I'm on facebook to see what my extended family are doing and that's the only way I can see my nephews and nieces as they are all over the country. I don't care what information they have on me. It's all useless stuff. What's on facebook are things I would share with strangers in the park because I have no great secrets or embarrassing lines, or foolish photos, or ignorant rude comments to hide. I have family and friends from California, British Columbia, Japan, Great Britain, and Newfoundland that keep me informed as to what is going on in my family and circle of friends. I like that; because my circle of friends and my family have no criminal intent nor terrorist plans. What the hell do I care about Facebook looking into my niece's information about coming home for the week? There isn't a friggin thing in Guelph that's worth their while!

Yes they do. It's to determine what sector we will live in, which color uniform, whether or not we'll be allowed to breed, and which meds we'll take when the Brave New World begins.
