A plugged duct is usually a tender lump in the breast. Changing positions (cradle, cross cradle, football) when you breast feed can help. Make sure that your bra or clothing aren't bunched up and putting too much pressure on the breast while you are nursing. You can put warm compresses on the lump (massage it under a warm shower or take a diaper and run it under very warm water and lay it open over the breast.) If you have any flu like symptoms, then go to a doctor or clinic. It can turn into mastitis which needs antibiotics. If nothing changes... see a doctor. The last thing you want to have happen is to find out that the lump was something more and it is too late, especially with a 6 month old at home. Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem as well. The lump turned out to be a clogged milk duct and eventually went away. The following helped in my case ...
- Massaging the breasts before nursing to loosen milk.
- Changing my son's nursing position to help empty ducts.
- Consistently emptying out each breast.
If the problem doesn't improve over time and you have a personal or family history of breast cancer, it may be worth getting checked out. Your state or local hospital may offer free/low-cost screenings.
Best of luck.

I am with the others.. please have it checked....
if nothing else , find a *free* clinic, or see what the local hospitals policy is on paying payments ( or even having it written off based on your income and no insurance.. I know our local city hospital helps people all the time ... they start with seeing if you can make payments but if that doesn't work, they have it set up where they can. based on income, write off part or all of the bill) but please have it checked out.. it may only be a clogged duct but I would rather you be *safe* and have bill to pay than not have it checked out and have major problems later on.

It may be nothing, or it may be serious. Call your local Health Dept. or hospital. Many areas have free or low cost mammograms available. You need to have this checked out.

Please find a way to see a doctor. A galactocoel cyst etc is most likely the cause, but you have to be sure it is not something more serious.
