ok
if there was a killer in my house.
let me know first what kind of weapon he had in his hand.
if it was a 9 mm handgun or pump action shotgun or any kind of assault rifle then there is no way to defend myself from that killer only i can do is to run till he shoot me and take my soul from my body.
if he had any kind of blade,knife and katana then i will surely run and succeed in running.
if he was bare hand then there is nobody besides god on the earth who can stop me from killing him.I will surely kill him with my bare hands with a single punch or kick targeting the right place.

Grab something to defend myself with and get my son and dog and leave to call the police. No sense in getting in danger to act like "the big man." I value my son as well as my life more.

If I could get to my kids and get out safely, I'd run. Otherwise, I would have to kill him/her in order to defend the lives of my children.

Defend myself - I have a large knife I keep by my side late at night. I don't live in the best of neighborhoods.
