I have had the worst time finding a doctor, and now that I have one, I'm still not comfortable with him. I am already 29wks pregnant, and I don't have much time to fool around. I have been strongly considering getting a midwife, and having my child at home. I just have a couple of questions. 1. I am RH- and chose not to take the Rhogam shot at 28wks, instead I will be taking it after birth... can a midwife administer this shot? #2. Is it safe? #3. How do I find one that is certified and licensed??? Can someone please help me out?

Yes, it is safe. If your midwife knows what to do in RH- cases, everything should be fine. Whether your midwife can administer the shot depends on where you live, but she will most likely be able to. If not, you have 72hours in which time you can go and have it done. As for looking for a midwife, here is a link that may be helpful. http://cfmidwifery.org/find/

Good luck and I hope all goes well.

I would think it would be safe, but the big issue is liability...most midwives will not take anyone high risk. Homebirth is a wonderful experience and I wish more women would consider it. I don't know enough about RH complications to tell for sure how safe homebirth would be for you. The best thing would be to call a few midwives and have them come to your home for a consultation. Most will do this for free and determine if you are a good candidate for homebirth. SOmetimes a good comprimise is birthing at a freestanding birthcenter staffed by Certified Nurse Midwives. Your local hospital can recommend lisenced midwives. Most are affiliated with a hospital in case of complications. Good Luck.

You do realize that by not getting the shot at 28 weeks, you could be putting your babies health at risk, right.
As far as a midwife, ask your doctor, many now work along with doctors out of their offices, just in case of complications. And there is no reason they couldn't give you the shot after birth, and if the midwife doesn't they may have you go to the doctor to have it done, you have 72 hours after birth to receive it.

,Yes it is safe, you can have a child at home. You can look in a phone book and find a Midwife there or even go to the hospital and let them know what you are choosing to do they can lead you in the right direction.

You have 72 hours after any miscarriage, stillbirth, live birth to have the shot, so you could possibly go to the doctor after giving birth for the shot. Since you did not have the shot you might have complications that you might need to ask your doctor about.

I am Rh negative and i had my baby at the hospital, I see that your uncomfortable with your doctor, but your baby should b more important, trust me u need the shot, and it you dont have it there could be risks for u and baby, I suggest u go to the hospital to have your baby, cuz now is not the time to be stressed about licenses and stuff, u need to b safe and so does your baby!!!
