the timing chain is very long for this engine at 200k miles it has stretched and should be replaced as a preventitive as well as the tensioner and shoe. this is a job for an experianced shop. the new chain can be wound in without pulling off the timing cover so the labor is not too bad also all rubber intake tubes should be replaced
[this engine uses air shroud injectors and "idle air" is directed over the fuel injector nozzels for better atomization, through these tubes]
these tubes crack and split when they harden up with age.
a close look at fnt end bushings and dampers w/a juandiced eye will keep the alignment true and tire wear acceptable other than that these cars [if they were kept up] still make solid interstate cruisers. good luck and have fun

that is kind of high even for diesel engine, its getting to the point to where its going to need a lot of maintenance on it,i wouldn't say be worried, but be ready to pay for some repairs on it, Mercedes are good cars one of the best built, but even they have a limit as to how much they can go for, before they cause problems,so buy this one at your own risk,if the price is cheap enough ,then anything is a good deal, good luck with it hope this helps.

Buying any vehicle in the 200,000 mileage range is always a poor choice. It is just a matter of time before everything starts breaking down.

as long as the car is in good overall condition, and you like teh car, go for it. mercedes has a reputation for solid reliable and dependable cars. be aware though that an engine rebuild on one is going to be expensive, and a reman or new engine is even more. again though as long as it is in good shape, and you keep the maintenance up on it, you can go much further.

Is it a diesel engine? If so, you should still get quite a bit of mileage out of it.
