Ok... So, basically the story is, I was trying to do a trick on my skateboard and somehow it ended up between my legs o.O. It swelled up and I went to the ER.

They told me I had a hematoma on my labia majora. I stayed at the hospital overnight for a day and they sent me home. They gave me a Sitz bath which I have been using every night.

The hematoma is about the size of an orange.. literally. And it is black in color. Basically, what I am trying to figure out is what will make it heal faster? And an estimate on how long it will take to heal. One doctor says it will take about 6 full weeks to heal, while another doctor says that the majority of the swelling goes down in about a few days.

Any help or outside rescources on where to learn more will be really helpful. Thank you :)

First off all, Ouch!

Well, a Hematoma is just another name for a Bruise (though it can mean other things as well. Basically it's a pooling of blood caused by broken blood vessels.(which can manifest itself by the bruise). The body then activites it's 'alarm' and triggers the inflammation.
The first doctor was right, most of the swelling will go down in about 3-4 days, especially if you ice it!!

If it just happened tonight....it's going to be VERY swollen tomorrow. I would advise you to ice the area 4 times a day for 20 minutes at a times, then 20 minutes off, then 20 minutes on again for the next 3 days. avoid all sexual activites for the next two to three weeks (not like you could right now even...)

Ouch

Both Docs are right, COMPLETE healing may take weeks, but you should start feeling better and moving around better in a couple of days.

A hematoma is nothing more than a collection of blood under the skin, a fancy name for a bruise.

Just keep doing what you are doing and for G**'s sake, be careful!

ha.... skate or die! right......well sister you about effectively ended future pleasurable experiences....

It took almost loosing my eye for me to quit. I love riding ramp and I'm damn good. But realize that these extreme sports will hurt(permanently) you and may even kill you. I'm surprised the docs didn't take a needle and drain it a little. But please don't do any thing more than what the docs say....and for heavens sake wait until its all healed b4 sk8ting again! see if you cant do bed rest as much as possible so you can heal your body is smart and does what it needs to to help heal its self. Don't be surprised if one lip is larger than the other when its all said and done. good luck and keep your legs crossed ...ha!
