The economy would go down as the drug addict criminals use drug money to buy fancy stuff. We need them as consumers, so let's give them the working class tax, so that average working families who want to save that money, which will not help the economy if they do, can help support the consumerism that is America.

I live in an area where this issue is applied in real time. Welfare is a dangerous thing. I see people every day that are on welfare and have no intention of ever getting a job let alone becoming sober enough to try. I also see people that desperately need welfare (and need it honestly) but can't get it because there's so many others on welfare that there's not enough for them. The system isn't working. It needs to be fixed. Do I think it should be ripped out from under the people of this country? Absolutely not. But something has to change. Don't ask me what. Isn't that what our leaders should be doing? You know, coming up with answers to questions like these?

The total amount of public money spent on welfare is only a tiny fraction of taxes paid. Why people make such an issue about this has always been a mystery. In real life, no money ever actually vanishes from the face of the earth. All of it gets recycled into wages, profits, investments and taxes. Sure, some people scam the system, but scammers are evident in every single venue that exists...it's just part of the general economy. Without welfare and other public spending the economy would simply reduce itself to a lower level of equilibrium. Third world countries don't have 'welfare' or much government spending..which is one reason why they're 3rd world. Low taxes...low spending...lower economic activity...poorer people.....strange but true!

I don't think there are any valid statistics which would show just what kind of numbers we're dealing with as far as drug addicted welfare recipients are concerned. I'm sure there are some, perhaps even a larger percentage than found in the non-welfare population. Obviously, the ACLU would have a hay day if we insisted that welfare recipients get drug tested - after all, that's prejudicial and demeaning.
I doubt they would suddenly straighten up and become contributing members of society. I suspect the scenarios you allude to in your question would be closer to the truth.

They'd go "crap!" If the people who really NEEDED welfare were the only ones who could get it, we'd be living in a perfect world. The lazy bums who know how to work the system would then have to *gasp* grow up and become contributing members of society.
If druggies no longer had welfare, they'd have to quit doing the drugs that get them into trouble in the first place. How mass crime and anarchy fits into a drug-trafficking-free world, I'm not sure I understand.

So, are trying to say it's better to keep handing free money to them, for their drug addictions? Keep them hooked on the government to bolster the democrats ranks?
Yea, I'm sure a lot of them would get jobs, while some may die if they choose to live the criminal life, and yes some will go to prison. I doubt our taxes would double if we cut them off though! We could always bring back the chain gangs, and make them support themselves in prison.
'I'm Ok' obviously lives in a fantasy world! Drug addict criminals buy fancy stuff?? How if they are broke and living off welfare? If you mean drug dealers, again, no! Most drug are imported from South America. As for the ones here, we do NOT need them as consumers. hey probably make up less than 1% of the population here. Wake up lady! Time to join reality!

our so called politicians and leaders are giving the American people a line of B,S, that is so sickening, try visiting a prison jail and see how much they spend on the people in prison or jail, they have app, one guard for 40 inmates, a concrete bed, one ragged blanket, no pillow, and I guarantee I could feed them twice as good for 50 cents per meal, so where the hell is that $25.000 dollars per year spent ?
do the guards get professional hookers every night after lock up? or has the warden got a big pocket ?

You'd have the governments of Columbia, Bolivia, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Venuzuela, et al immediately set up lobbiests in Congress to have the laws changed back on the grounds of economic destablization of their economies and workforces....LOL

They'll be left out and will continue to struggle with life. We need to aid these people through public donations and educational programs so that they will reintegrate and get back into society.
