My favorite is Goblet of Fire. I think it has the perfect mix of lighthearted Hogwarts mischievousness, suspense and plot development regarding the whole series. I really enjoyed the Triwizard Tournament and having the other schools visiting. Also, it's the last book without Harry being all whiny a lot of the time.

The Philosopher's Stone. The first introduction to the world of wizards is, well, magical! After that, it is merely more of the same. Not that the later books aren't good, just the first taste is special.

then i guess u haven't read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix? that's my favorite so far. i'm halfway done with the 6th.

well, i haven't seen the fifth one yet ( i'm gonna see it tomorrow )
but so far...definately the prisoner of azcaban!
