It's made out of oxygen atoms. It's an element in-and-of itself. The "oxide" in dioxide, refers to oxygen (when paired with another element).

O is the element symbol for oxygen.
its made out of shells and a nucleus. in the nucleus there are protons(positive charge) and neutrons(no charge). on the shells there are electrons (negative charge)
carbon dioxide's symbol is CO2. notice the O in that and the two.
so C is carbon.
O2 is dioxide which is two oxygens. oxygen is changed to oxide becuase the charge for oxygen is negative.
hydrogen is H. notice it doesnt have any oxygens.
you should go look at a periodic table. its full of all the basic elements. '
good luck.

Made of Oxygen. Carbon dioxide is 1 part carbon, 2 parts oxygen. Hydrogen is another thing again. Water is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. h2o

Oxygen, being an element in its own right, is not made out of other elements or compounds. The atoms are made out of 8 protons, 8 electrons, and 8, 9, or 10 neutrons. Oxygen in the air is diatomic: each oxygen molecule consists of two oxygen atoms, or occasionally three, when it is called ozone. Commercial oxygen is made by liquefying air and distilling the liquid.

Oxygen is a diatomic element when in room tempature [otherwise known as the famous "air"]. It is a gas and it's chemical formula is simply O2. This all means oxygen as air is made of just two oxygen atoms because oxygen is an element in and of itself. If you want to further break it down each oxygen atom is made up of 8 protons, electons and neutrons each which translates to 16 of each in one molecule of air.

pure oxygen is O2, which is 2 oxygen molicules stuck together. The air we breath is not pure oxygen though. It does have stuff like carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane, ozone (O3) etc. in it. It just doesn't contain enough to hurt us to much.
