It urkes me that hurricane Katrina people won't even try. Fema just gave them another year extension tell June 30, 2008 it is already going on 2 years and they still are using any excuse not to work. Don't you think its about time for them to get off their butts and go to work? They are getting more benefits then the September 11 victims ever got. I live here in Houston and I moved to Houston a year ago from the west coast with no job and me and my husband both had jobs in the first month of moving to Houston. But how do you feel about the hurricane Katrina people?

I would have to agree. The people should get off their butts and get a job. They can go to a fast food place and make $8 - $10 an hour. But I can say this for all of the homeless people out there too. But as long as our country keeps pitying them and giving them what they want, then they are going to be lazy. If I was a law maker or FEMA worker, I would have made a deadline and that would have been it. I'm sure that there are some cases that have good reasons but most of the people are just plain LAZY.

While most Houstonians, like most people, are just tired - you know, how someone just gets tired and frustrated after a certain period of assisting, though they were very welcoming in the beginning, I believe there is more to this topic than people actually care to discuss.

Most importantly, however, there's no person with healthy work ethics who doesn't want to work and be independent of others or government. For starters, Texas is a very diverse (one would think this is good news) and competitive society (the originals out to take back and everyone else trying to survive in a historically hostile environment). Because of these unresolved historical issues, the workplace in Houston, Texas (where everything happens) can be very hostile; unless one is very fortunate to find a job in the less than 1% civil and professional environments. Texas is a very factionist society - one almost has to belong to some group or know someone in high place to keep a decent job for long. Most foreigners, especially Asians, are usually smart enough to simply go self-employed and even open their native grocery stores and restaurants (where they shop for almost everything and eat) in order to survive in Houston, Texas -

Therefore, whether our fellow New Orleanians were economically productive or jobless before coming to Houston, Texas, the above mentioned facts in Houston, Texas, are simply more challenges for them. And the fact that, sometimes, the municipality places road blocks (as if disappointed by very industrious individuals), only adds to the jobless situations. Please see: "Forget Not" - http://www.geocities.com/ulafrique/forge...

I do not believe New Orleanians in Houston, Texas, do not want to earn their own living. Come visit Houston, Texas, and you'll be surprised at the number of homeless people (very educated included). Why are they (forget about the foreigners - they just discovered, yet, another basic fact of life: There's no place like home!) homeless in their country/nation? I strongly believe the "welfare" system has a lot to do with these "lazy" people: Some are rendered homeless to get them into welfare, and others are too used to the handouts that they no longer want to thrive for themselves. I believe the welfare system in the USA is a form of slavery. The government actually encourages the catch-22 situation and uses "welfare" to keep people in check.

In the wake of devastating floods in China last year, China set a goal of replacing those thousands of brick and mortar homes by February of this year. They met that goal.

In the mean time, New Orleans still lays in ruins because of many reasons, from litigation, to ineffective government, contractors not getting paid, mismanagement and general all around political BS and finger pointing.

Why is it, that a third rate country that is supposed to have such a dismal human rights record treats its people better then we do?

How in the hell would you feel if your home was destroyed and your family and way of life uprooted with lofty promises of a quick fix then 2 years later your wondering when the nightmare will be over?

Yea, right, "We the People" just as long as you're rich and privileged.

Peace

ordinary BS Democrat rant. The politicians who failed New Orleans and the remainder of Louisiana in the process Katrina have been DEMOCRATS. The canal partitions that failed (flooding the city-perfect) have been outfitted in the process the CLINTON administration. hence l. a. elected a Republican outright (no runoff needed) as Governor interior the 2007 election, and why New Orleans could ok have a Republican Mayor after the 2010 election.
