Say you're driving DOWN a mountain during a rainstorm and you're in the middle of a 3 lane freeway. You decide you wanna get into the slow lane but you notice there's an 18 wheeler next to you in that lane. Even though it's raining would you cut over in front of that truck and then go 10 miles even slower then it was or would you do the smart thing and let the truck pass you by and then get over behind it? Btw, I'm a truck driver and some idiot actually did this today.

In response to Pilot: That's one reason why you shouldn't follow closely behind one when it's raining out. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

In the grand scheme of things, look at it this way:

Today wasn't their day but someday it will be and you won't have to worry about that idiot anymore 'cuz they'll be road pizza.

Hope this helps....

id slow down and let the truck pass then get in the lane i needed to be in,you never cut in front of a big truck, people don't understand that those things wont stop on a dime like a car will,i have drove a truck before,a car hauler, and its not fun when you see the rear end of a small car coming up real fast, its down right scary, most people don't think though when they do this,by then its too late, driving a truck is a dangerous job,i had about a year of it mixed with other things at the time that was enough for me,you can have that job,be careful, and watch out for those who don't know or just don't care, good luck, and keep it safe.

Well, I used to drive trucks and I have had such an experience also. To do so is near sucidal and it is an act of lunacy. For one keep in mind that the large tractor trailer will have much difficulty in stopping because of the weight, the size and the angle of the slope. The smart thing would be to allow the 18 wheeler to pass and then ease into the slow lane. However, to educate everyone on such sensible driving is like trying to convince every person in the world that Jesus Christ is their savior. Some people will accept it and some people will try to crucify you.

I'd rather do anything than be behind one of those things in the rain. Truck drivers seem to forget how all those 18 wheels kick up mist so that a low riding vehicle is totally blinded at times. In the 18 wheeler and the higher up cab you don't catch any of that spray.

If the truck was going faster than I was, I'd slow down and get in behind the truck. If I was going faster, I'd get in front. Logical you'd think...but some people are slightly idiotic. They are the ones that cause wrecks by doing things like the guy did to you today. I dont mess with trucks anyways, around here they are either driving way too fast or way too slow.

I've seen guys do a lot of stupid stuff with truckers. They don't realize that you are hauling a load and you can't stop like it is a compact car. They'll cut out in front of you, slam on their brakes without warning.

You know the story.

People should think that pulling out in front of a truck is something like pulling out in front of a train. Don't expect them to stop.

Good luck.

personally it all depends on the road.

if there is a mile of lane left then pass irregardless of weather - there is lots of time to get by.

if the lane is going to run out or there is a corner comming up - then slow down and fall back - you can allways pass later
