i bought this handheld game and it requires 4 batteries. i just wanna test it real quick right now. from where would you take out the AA batteries in this situation?

Either there is short or the foil is acting as a low resistor and getting heated up. Your batteries are draining faster than normal, so they too are getting heated up. Buy a AA type cell holder (2 x 2 or 4 x 1 type) and complete the circuit by providing the positive output to positive of the player and the negative output to the negative of the player. Only problem here is the battery unit stays outside the player.
