I can't believe we are getting another storm! Last weekend my house was hit by lightning and fried my network. Should I say goodnight to Yahoo! and unplug my new hardware - or can I be confident that it won't happen twice!

It came in on my phone line. A lightning rod probably would not have helped. Electricity has a way of finding a path if it has a mind too! Goodnight all!

Yes, lightning does strike the same place. The Empire State Building gets struck by lightning several times a year.

It's a good idea, because I was online during a storm, and there was a single flash of lightning, and that shot my modem. So I don't go on during storms any longer, just in case that happens again.

Have someone install a lightning rod. I am amazed at the lack of such simple devices in the U.S. Your "fried network was totally preventable.

Lightning is more likely to strike twice in one place than it is to strike once in a new place. That's a true fact. I read it somewhere -- I think it was my day-by-day calendar.
