See,I recently purchased this hard drive and I transferred some of my photos to it already. My only problem is sometimes, when I click the off/on button, it takes a while to recognize whether it be I am turning it off or on. I will click the button and it would require me maybe another click for it to turn off.

Is there anyone else out there, who owns a Lacie 500 GB external hard drive, that happens to have the same problem? And if so, what did you do about it. I don't want that I will have to replace it, or have it repaired by the manufacturer, because I already transferred so many pictures on it. It cost me a lot of money also, because of the country I am in right now.

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ignore the comment about getting a "NAME BRAND" made above, as they clearly don't understand LACIE is one of the TOP "name brand"s in the ext HDD market.

Ext HDDs DO TAKE a few seconds at least for power on/off as they have to ensure all data is safely written to disc, and park heads, before closing USB/Firewire connection to PC and powering down.

On power up, they need to spin disc to working speed, and establish a USB /FW link and get it confirmed before data transfer can occur.

I have 2 western digital drive, and they are similar, although I leave them on, they go to auto-sleep after a while, and takes 5 secws to access 1st file after this. My other "cheap" ione I use from time to time is slower

It's a piece of crap. Go get your money back and get a name brand.
