if your lucky its only a bad hose or water pump. water pumps can be a little pricey depending on your model. worst case you have a cracked head or blown head gasket. crank engine and go look at exhaust pipe. is water coming out of exhaust? sure sign of head trouble. also check inside passenger side under dash and floorboard for signs of leaking heater core. does windshield get foggy and sticky looking when heat is on defrost.thats sign of bad core.

You have a leak. It could be a hole in the hose or maybe the radiator has gone bad. You could have a leak in the heater core. Maybe even a bad water pump.

It is important to get this fixed. If not, then you are looking to ruin the engine if it runs hot.

2 possibilities:-

1) You filled the coolant too high, check for marking on your coolant tank that says full, anything above you fill will overflow or disburse, so you will still see it as low, but in actual fact, it's full.

2) Your hoses are stuck from the "gunk" from the antifreeze.
Clear hoses.

Hope that helped.

If it isn't leaking out anywhere then it's either being burned off in the engine, or ending up in the oil. If either of these is the case, you most likely have a blown head gasket or a cracked head.

Many places will pressure test your cooling system for free. It only takes a minute. Then they can see where it's leaking.

I may have some bad news; have a mechanic do a check for a BLOWN HEAD GASKET. These are classic symptoms...
