I'm not a grudge holder. I've tried to hold grudges from time to time, but I've never succeeded.

I recall the story in Ken Burns' series on the Civil War about Grant's siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi in early July of 1863 at just about the same time that the Battle of Gettysburg was ending in Pennsylvania and Lee was beginning his retreat to Virginia.

According to the story, the Confederate officer who was commanding the garrison defending Vicksburg told his officers and the officials of the City something to the following effect: "I was born and raised in the North and I understand those people. I am convinced that we will never receive surrender terms as lenient as those we would receive if we surrendered the city on the Fourth of July."

And so it was done. The Fourth of July was not again celebrated in Vicksburg for the next 81 years, which would make it July 4, 1944 by my calculation, not quite 30 days after the D-Day invasion of Festung Europa by the Allies at Normandy on June 6, 1944, an understandable time for the citizens of Vicksburg to bury their old grudge in a spasm of patriotism. Now THAT was a grudge!

Yes. There are a few idiots out there who love to take advantage of people. I don't try anymore to forgive people because that would mean leaving myself wide open for more dissappointment. They could drop dead.

Yes, a person that hurt me more than any other could have, he tore my heart and soul into tiny pieces and stomped them.
He did the one thing he always promised he wouldnt, he lied, decieved and tortured me.
Ive tried to forgive him but i cant and i dont love him anymore.

Yes. I have been told to let it go but that is something I cannot do. I know they say that to forgive is a relief in your heart but ...no. I will never, can never, don't want to ever forgive...this person. He'll burn for his sins.

Yes. I've tried, but it has now been 5 years and simply cannot forgive his ultimate act of betrayal.

I can't forgive my ex. He used me sooo freaking much, and no matter how much advice I gave him he wouldn't listen to one single bit of it. He CHEATED on me with so many other girls, and had phone sex with them without me knowing. I can NOT forgive him for that what so ever!
