The Democrats are calling for "national service," which is the latest euphemism for slavery, particularly of the military variety.

If you believe that the draft isn't slavery, I advise you to read this article;

This is demogogic and serves no useful discussion.
First off, no one will support any non-voluntary military service that is worth any political weight.
Secondly, you must consider community service delegated to inmates isn't considered slavery. When you could pick and choose how you would be asked to serve, you rank quite a bit above an convict.

Southern states always side with the party that allows the most state's rights. There isn't any other reason for the party switch. Yes, in the 1860s and there for a while after they sided with Democrats because they wanted their way and were upset over the slavery deal because they viewed it as a state issue, seeing as though, at the time, it was not addressed in the Constitution. Over the years they switched again, once the Republicans took the "good 'ole boy" stance during the 1950s and such. We can also accuse the northern states of the same thing. Each division of this country will side with any party so long as they say what the people of that area want to hear.

I would approve of National Service for our young, if it was clearly stipulated that it would not involve military service unless it was voluntary. But a Peace Corps type organization that helped so many back in Kennedy's day might not be a bad idea.

Most Democrats do not approve of a draft. They don't even approve of the war. Once in a while, a Congressman will mention the word "draft" just to see the Republicans scatter. There is no quicker way to cause a Republican to run for the bushes...pun intended.

I can't understand the Republican view. They approve of the War, but only if it is fought by Other People's Children. If you support a war, go fight it! The stock Republican answer is, "College first!," but there are almost 4,000 Americans whose college years have been permanently cancelled.

If you want war? Go fight it! Put your action where your mouth is! If you want to invade countries and show your muscle, have an occupying force and go out in 130 degree heat to risk a bomb planted on the road just ahead....well, either shut up or put up! But don't cheer a conflict that you refuse to take part in.

I can remember World War II, when the 17-year-olds lined up to join the military, permission slips in hand. What a difference! And what a fallacy it is to support a war one doesn't want to fight in!

I agree with coragryph. I think that majority of Americans feel that the draft is a form of slavery but, it is protected by law. And, the brave soldiers are serving long periods of time and are repeatedly being sent back. I think that this is an abuse of the Draft. God Bless Our Troops and their families.

I think slavery or even mandatory national service is O.K. if it help the socialist dictatorship agenda of the Democrat Party.

Where else are the Democrats going to get large levels of popular support without slaves?

Can you provide any reference to support your claim of this "national service" policy? Because the term itself is too broad.

A draft counts as national service, but is not slavery.

So, it entirely depends on what the actual bill proposal says -- and that requires something other than a bland assertion.

EDIT: A draft does not count as slavery because the Supreme Court says it doesn't. I personally do consider it a form of slavery, but the law says that it is not.

It's not slavery -- slavery is being bought sold and owned by a private citizen. Under your definition the draft was slavery ... not the same thing.

I agree completely with Me Too!

Often, I give really good answers, too! But, sometimes, someone else's answer is already so close to what I feel and believe, that the best I would be able to do is repeat their answer, so I just post that I agree with them! *sm*
