I did the same thing with being put on birth control strictly for regulating my periods a few years ago. My doctor did not, and still has not ever given me a pap smear or a pelvic exam. She usually just asks me questions like: are you sexually active? Do you have any abnormal discharge? Severe cramping or extremely heavy bleeding? If you answer your doctors questions in a way that leads them to believe you are a healthy teenager he/she may not give you a pap smear or a pelvic. If they do decide to do a full exam just relax during it. From what I understand they are only slightly uncomfortable, and over before you know it, as long as you are relaxed. Hope this helps. :-)

If you are on your period then they will schedule a pap smear for another time. As far as whether you have to get a pap smear, it depends on the doctor's policy. Some doctors require a pap smear, others don't. Since you are only 16 and not sexually active, you may not need it for a few years and you might be able to get a prescription without one.

You should definitely still go. If you have never been sexually active, you may not need a Pap. If you are and you are due for your Pap, as long as your period isn't heavy it can still be done. It's better to keep the appointment and let the doctor decide, instead of rescheduling for what may be a month later!

I've had pap smears while I was on my period. As long as you're not bleeding really heavily, they will be able to. BTW, this has happened to me on more than a few occasions. Why do women always start their period right before their wedding, and right before they go to the gynecologist???

usually you have to see the gyno to get on the pill. they might not do a pap smear. i went to ask about the pill where you get 4 periods a year and she wrote it for me but i had to come back to get one a few months later. there not as scary as you think. usually a normal doctor wont prescribe certain things like bc. i would go ahead and make a gyno apt.

He might! But they will want to get a PAP! I had to do the same thing when I was your age(to regulate awful periods)! It may be best to reschedule your appt! They will also do a follow up or refer you to a gyno doc anyways! Your best bet is to just call the office and ask!

Call the drs and ask if them what their policy is on this. You don't want to waste your time going if the can't do anything for you that day.
