For us to see a big decline in discrimination against GLBT people in our lifetime?

I have noticed a shift already. Many teenagers and younger people are more accepting towards GLBT people, and many of them feel less insecure about "coming out" than the last generation. I know it's not possible to remove discrimination entirely, but with the current declines in open bigotry; I think it may be possible for us to have to worry very little about homophobes and other discriminators in the future.

I'm 52, and I've already seen a big decline. It was perfectly okay to arrest gay people for simply hanging around together when I was a child. Now we are a constituency in the Democratic Party, our relationships are being recognized by state governments, there are gay people in Congress and state legislatures, and in Europe, some have even run for the prime minister of their countries.

We're making grand progress in acceptance of who we are: Full human beings whose love contains just as much dignity as any other person's and whose contributions to society are every bit as valuable as the straight subculture.

I think we will see a huge decline of hate-rid of LGBT people in my life time. In my life time already more people are coming out and being open than the days before me, and I am 33. I do think we will also see a surge of people acting out against the LGBT community because as we get more freedoms, and rights, people will become afraid and try to knock us back down. Look at the time before the Civil Rights act was passed and after. There was a surge in violence towards minorities after it was passed. The more freedoms a person/group has the more afraid people who oppose it become.
