Subtract 5 hours from GMT if they are both using or both not using Daylight Savings Time.

Today, GMT is not on Daylight Savings Time but EST is.
So 8:00 pm GMT today is 4:00 pm today in NJ.

EST (Eastern Standard Time) is 5 hours behind GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). Just subtract "5" from GMT to see what time it is on the east coast of the United States. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time - Daylight Savings) is 4 hours behind GMT. New Jersey is on America's east coast. Chicago is Central Time (-6 GMT), Denver is Mountain Time (-7 GMT) and Los Angeles is Pacific Time (-8 GMT). I hope this helps, good luck!

eastern time is utc minus 5 hours, except during daylight savings time, in which case it is utc minus 4. (utc is universal time consolate, and is the same as gmt) except gmt changes for dst.
