ok, i was wondering what the true effectiveness -if everything is done right- of contraceptives during intercourse. That includes condoms, birth control, and the morning after pill. Plus the effectiveness of using 2 or more.

thanks

Birth control at perfect use is 99.3%
Condoms at perfect use is 98%
Withdrawal even at perfect use is something between 30% - 50%

Using two or more is usually safe. That's the way I go (condoms plus birth control and sometimes with withdrawal also). But even that is still a luck thing. It wasn't at perfect use, but worth a mention is the fact that I knew someone who's girlfriend got pregnant even with the use of the pill and condoms (what luck, ha).

The morning after pill shouldn't be lumped in with contraceptives because it's meant as a last resort. I'm unsure of it's effectiveness.

If you really are very careful, it is not hard to avoid getting pregnant. The most effective combinations will be a barrier method (condom) combined with a hormonal method (oral contraceptives, nuvaring, depo-provera shot). I have been using one or two methods of birth control for 18 years, having sex on a regular basis, never been pregnant.

Operator error is the most common reason babies happen why people are trying to prevent it. :)

Hormonal contraceptives--Pills, patches, the ring, Depo--well over 95 percent. Condoms, used correctly, over 90 percent. I am not sure about the diaphragm.

The morning after pill is if your primary method fails, which hopefully it won't.

Using two or more increases effectiveness, of course.
