I live in NY while my cousin lives in Florida. He's currently visiting and will be staying with us for the summer until the school term begins. Although he does interact and converse with us every now and then, he for the most part, stays on his laptop until 4 AM every night doing things like surfing the web and playing mmorpg - which is ok except that he could have just stayed home and have done that. The irony is that he purposely came here because he wanted to get away from the suburbs which he has even described as a "prison".

We're in the same age-group and there's plenty of things he could do in the house if he was bored - I have a big collection of movies, video games, etc. that I've pointed out to him. So it just irks me that he chooses to just stay on the laptop all day doing the same things he could've done if he stayed in his "prison" home.

Am I making something out of nothing or do I have the right to be offended?

laflaca: What the hell are you talking about? Yes, he's on vacation but in MY home. If he just wants to isolate himself then he should find his own place to do that instead of taking up someone else's space.

Both, In most mmo's there is a strong community presense that can be hard for alot of people to step away from. They feel like they are going to miss out and fall behind. It could be he felt like he was being harrased to much to get out and that is what he means by prison. His parents acting the warden. Probably wouldnt be too over the line to talk wiht him and say hey, I was so excited that you were coming lets hang out some more go out and live some life you can always hit the comp later. I wouldnt say your out of line for being offended at least to a degree but I would watch that you dont make it out so that you dont make it bigger then it is.

You dont have the right to be offended he is not there to keep you company he is there for a change of scenery he is on vacation he should spend it as he wishes without rules that you would like to impose he is your cousin he doesnt have to be like you or do what you do I would start by asking if he has had enough of his vacation prison and would like to out go out to the mall ,park or whatever your age group is allowed to do to have fun OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE.

yes i would be upset. i guess he wants to be out of the prison at homehuh? well maybe they wont' let him hang there all day maybe he has chorus to do and that is part of hisproblem. does he have stuff to be responsible for there? if not make him with some. you need to communicate with him and talk and then decide what you are gonna do

I would tell him exactly that. Tell him that there are lots of things to do here and if he is shy you can always show him around.. Try to help him come out of his shell!
