Flower colors only vary on some lace cap and mophead hydrangeas. Many varieties are only one color such as ‘Forever Pink’ and ‘Sister Therese’. But most blue flowering varieties such as ‘Nikko Blue’ will produce blue flowers in acidic soil and pink flowers in alkaline soil. If your blue hydrangeas are flowering pink you can make your soil more acidic using Aluminum Sulphate fertilizer. This is the best way of turning your hydrangeas blue. Using an all-purpose fertilizer like MirAcid will maintain acidity but will not change the color very quickly. To turn your blue hydrangeas more pink, add lime to your soil. These techniques will work gradually. Lime, especially, take weeks or months to work in the soil.

Depends on the colour.(Pink) most not have any aluminium in the soil 1 to 2 times a year add dolomite lime this will raise the pH(6.0-6.20)and keep the bluing effect out.Use fertiliser with high levels of Phosphorous ratio of 25/10/10. If they are blue aluminium is in the ground.Your ph should be (5.2-5.5)If not add aluminum sulfate 1table spoon to a gallon during growing season. I also like using grass clippings to my plants it's a good fertilier.I us a mower with a bag when full I put it around my plants.I also use scraps from the kitchen(everything including banana peeles).

I agree with the other answers about adjusting the soil pH. I wanted to add that not all hydrangeas will be able to change colors so make sure you have a variety that can.

Aluminum sulfate , a granular soil amendment, is the usual method for hydrangea . Keep in mind it only works for varieties of Hydrangea macrophylla ., the blue ones . 'Nikko Blue' is the most common one . Acidic soil makes them blue .( Normal, default situation, most places ) Basic soil will produce pink flowers. Use lime for that . ~Neutral soil (pH 7- same as most potting mixes) will make them lavender to mauve , possibly with spots of pink or blue.

It's based on the acidity of the soil- change the chemical composition and change the color! I believe items such as Hollytone and Miracid, Miracle Grow etc can make the difference but you should do some research on color and such before you make any changes!
