You should tell them that we don't eat crumpets everyday, we have scones or cucumber sandwiches to accompany our pot when we get a 'munch on' ha ha, and it's Prince Charles who grows the pot, the Queen is just the delivery driver!

New York is full of people from all over the world, and running into someone speaking with a British accent in NYC is hardly anything worth noting. Plus since many people in NYC have met a lot of people from around the world, I doubt anyone asked you any of those questions. Most New Yorkers don't really talk to people they don't know.

Next time you make up some BS story about your trip to America and how mean we are, put a little more effort into it, will ya?

In the meantime, find the nearest stove, open the door, and get in.

Where the heck were you? Come to the Heartland of America. We droll over guys with accents and hang on your every word (well, at least I do). You can't generalize an entire nation of people on the residents of one city, New York especially! After 9/11 and because of the Iraq War, and New York residents being as strong minded and mouthed as they can be, some Americans are just sick and tired of being bad mouthed by people from other countries. Unfortunately, you walked into a bad neighborhood because you got hit pretty hard. On behalf of those inconsiderate *ss-holes, I apologize. We want everyone to be welcome in our country, for a visit. Maybe you're just that much more of a man than they are that they let into you in any way their pea-sized brains concocted. Mi casa, es su casa here, so please visit any time!

Don't listen to those effing americans! Not all of them are bad, but a lot of them are. They think that they live in the "blessed" country. Whatever, they should go screw themselves. We brits should make fun of the mean americans when they come to britain!! hahaha!!!

They say "it's a free country" but they have laws like everyone else (or most everyone) so it isn't THAT free..especially when you have to give up your freedoms!

They took the land the indians were on, and said "We are moving in because we can" And poluted it, cut down all it's forrests, and they think they are Gods favorite country. Whatever, We brits know better.

I am sorry for what you experienced in New York. I can't speak for anyone but myself but I don't care who they are no one has the right to treat you that way.

I don't care if you are from the U.K. or China or right next door to me, none of those things are reasons to be disrespectful. I don't care if a man is gay as long as they are not hitting on someone who is young or already taken.

I currently live in one small New England town and will be moving to another withing a few months because we are buying a house with some more space, we have outgrown this one but if you ever have the opportunity to come to Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont I can pretty much guarantee that unless you start it (and god help you if you do) you won't be treated with anything but friendly respect.

Good luck and give us another try someday.

Everyone in the world is mean. It's rare to find nice people anywhere these days. I was suprised though when I came here how nice people were. I was shocked. Next time someone calls you gay say "Better gay than an ***" Asking about eating and drinking isnt rude, I asked my friend that once, she told me teatime meant dinner :)

I'm sure you have your share of ignorants too. At least you're stereotyped as being posh, while us Americans, are dumb, overweight, homophobic, gun-slinging rednecks.

Two countries, separated by a common language.

by the way, I'm from California, does that count for anything?

Don't think that a few people in New York should represent the over 300 million people in America. And pot is illegal here in the states. I just think you came across some rude people lately.

We're honest people.
We're humorous people.
And you were in new york.
Not to stereotype, but the people in new york have a job to get done, and they just want to get it done.
Its a business capital.

My best friend is an immigrant, and she thought the same way at first. Then she got to know us, and she absolutely loves us. You'll learn the pattern, I promise.

I think british accents are sexy.
