i finished the book yesterday morning. i feel like there is nothing left to look forward to in life... yes i know... pathetic. i feel like harry, ron and hermione have become my best friends. i have been trying everything to get my mind off of it, but nothing seems to work. i too, feel so empty.

Yeah im sad too. I remember thinking when i was yonger that when the last HP book came out it would be the end of the world...but somehow it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. it was an amazing book and i think the only part that let me down was the epilogue only because i wanted to know more about what happened after to all of my other favorite characters (the weasleys for example, other than ron of course) I do feel empty a little looking back but hey, they will always be there for me to re read!

I was a little sad for it to be over to. There is always a little bit of sadness when you finish a good book or a good series because the characters have become a part of you and you've gotten so involved in their "lives". Take some time to enjoy your real life for awhile and have fun. Then try and find another good book to get involved in - there are lots out there. I bet you could get some recommendations from other Harry Potter fans of other books you might like - try asking on Yahoo! ;-)

I asked this same question a couple of days ago...
Personally, after finishing the book i felt relieved but also deeply saddened. Firstly, i am happy with the ending (i will not mention any spoilers, but i will say it is Rowling's best work to date).
Secondly, and to answer your question, yes. After finishing the book i felt like i was parting with my childhood (which is awkward considering i am not that young) and that i would never feel the same joy when reading another book.
Rowling's book is not just a childhood bed time story. Instead, i think it is a book for the ages, which draws on a wide variety of complex and sophisticated notions from philosophy, history and other literary works.
Ultimately though, i hope Rowling doesn't forgot about us, the readers, and that she continues to write "magical" novels (whether they be from Harry's world or something completely different).

I loved the book. Yes, I am sad that it is over, but enjoyed the whole series. I liked the ending, even though the book was very dark and sad in spots, the ending does brighten things up and I thought that the ending was great. Use your imagination and think forward, not back and you can imagine all sorts of possibilities for the families.

To me it almost sounds as if someone else wrote the last two chapters... because it was so different from the story itself... like getting knocked unconscious, and seeing all the dead people.. and then reawadening again...
i didnt even read the last chapter about the 19 years later...
because it was stupid.. the kids of harry and ginny were like albus, and just the names of all the characters in the book, it was confusing, and i didnt like how it ended...

Well... I have not read it yet, I was hoping to take my time with it to avoid all of the feelings described. .... though when I finished the last book I was dying to know what happens next.
After reading all the above answers now I see that Harry goes on to have a few kids. That's neat.
I'm just glad she didn't make us wait years for it.

call me a geek, but i do feel a bit...empty...now that the series is over. now that the story is over, i dont know what to do with myself! the books couldnt have ended better, though. rowling has a brilliant imagination and i congratulate her for that. whatever the next big book series may be, i dont think anything will ever out-do harry potter.

You Know I actually thought the ending (Although I am SAD that it's over) ended HP well!! I didn't care much for the Epilogue (The writing anyways.....I liked the idea?!), but I think an 8th book would RUIN the Series......I think a new Idea for JK would suite her well!!

I know, I felt that way too. I wanted to cry when I finished reading it! I didn't really like the epilogue. I'm glad Harry named his kids Lily, James, and Albus, though. I wonder if I'll ever find a book I'll be that excited over again.
