I have a 2005 4X4 Z71. After driving home which is about a 30 minute drive both my front rims are almost to hot to hold.

Thank you all for your replys! I feel a lot better now. Both rims do heat up, I just never had touched them after driving..

Seeing your Z71 is a 4X4 and it is a truck, which bias' the brakes more towards the front, yes even a casual drive will cause the brakes and wheels to get quite warm.

As long as they are not binding (jack front, free spin wheels) and the rotors/calipers are not glowing, you will be fine. Keep in mind what type/size of tires and type of pads you have installed will also affect the temperature of your braking system.

Every disc brake caliper ever made, ever will be made and are made now exert a minimal clamping force on the disc brake pads to the rotors even when the brakes are not being used. The heat is transferred to the hubs wheels and tires. That's a given fact even when not in the braking mode. This is to keep the rotors clean, dry and free of any foreign objects.
Prove this to yourself by touching any wheel that's just stopped in a parking lot that has disc brakes. OUCH! Don't burn the crap out of your hands.

they,ll get real warm,i wouldn't want to touch them at that point but as long as there not smoking or you can actually see the heat off of them they may be alright, this all depends on how much you have to use the brakes also, but its somewhat normal for them to get a little hot,if the heat is about the same on both sides, they should be alright.if you think there too hot though have it checked, you could have bad calipers causing them to not release all the way.good luck with it.

depending on the region where you live being hot to the touch is normal but to be on the safe side (which is always best) jack up the front of your truck, free spin the tires and listen for any ruff sounds also if you take your truck off road you may want to clean the airports on your rotors (located in the center of the rotor) this will also cause overheating after short drives

You have a dragging break or brake components, possibly some debris is caught between your pads and disc. Either way they should be just warm unless you live at the bottom of a very steep hill.
