No, it is not alright. I just got my baby home form the hospital and it warned me againest using distilled water. He is now 2 months but was a preemie. It is better to you bottle water or regular tap water. It has to do with the nutrients (minerals) in the water. If you are using distilled water, let the physican know for the baby. I hope everything is going alright.

I always use the tap water, I use the filtered water through my refrigerator water dispenser. Distilled or nursery water (same thing just different isle in the store) is fine if you want to use it. When your baby's teeth start coming in you'll have to give fluoride vitamin drops. Unless you're on well water or have a concern about your city's water supply then tap water is fine for a health full term baby. If you do decide to boil the water, don't let it boil for more than 1 minute, any longer than that and you're actually concentrating the trace minerals that are in the water.

I use distilled water in the humidifier.

That's what I always used for my son's formula. Never had any problems with it. I just felt it was better than using tap because of the chlorine and whatever other chemicals they might add and whatever might be in it from groundwater contamination. Distilled water is really the purest water you can get as far as I know.

In the 'olden days', parents were told to boil their water before using it to prepare formula. That was before water purification became more sophisticated. Problems with water purity can still occur but, it is rare. The only issue now with tap water is the amount of fluoride that is in your community water supply. The American Dental Association suggests that babies under six months of age who eat powder or liquid concentrate formula have it prepared with either fluoride-free bottled water or tap water that contains low levels of fluoride. I'd say it's totally safe, but the choice is up to you!

Either use tap water, filtered tap water, or nursery water which is bottled but contains flouride. Without the flouride from water you are setting your baby up for very weak teeth later in life and he/she could have a multitude of dental problems.
