I'm not a scientist, but from what I've read, it doesn't seem that global warming isn't happening. Why do people think it's a lie?

Really, I don't know how people could not agree with it. It is damn hot outside. In truth I am getting warmer every day and it really irks me off. Moreover, I want to spit on that smug sun and call it a dote. Actually, I hate this global warming as a matter of fact.

It's not made up, but the hysterics about it turn people off! Global warming is a natural part of the physical cycle of the planet. During the last global warming, dinosaurs ruled the Earth and there were crocodiles and tropical plants at the poles- not bad, eh? The hysteria comes from the evidence that when the Earth's climate undergoes a major shift, so do the species. Each global scale climate change is marked by mass extinctions, and it is the largest species with the most specialized needs that take it tough (so this time around, it could be humans) and this has people worried.

The earth goes through cycles, sure, but never before has it gone through such dramatic changes. In the past 100 years we have gone through the kind of change that takes thousands of years.

I have noticed alot of American people disbelieve global warming. I have asked questions similar to this before and got a lot of abuse, but only from American people. I think when a nation is so used to driving gas guzzling vehicles "like it aint no thang", they will be in denial about something like global warming. Also, such a big country...it's thought nothing of jumping ojn a plane to go to the next state, instead of driving or using public transport.

In the UK, we have really noticed a change in the weather in the last 20 years. This can not be coincidence. Quite literally, until the early 80's we had snowy winters and sunny summers. Now, we get awful flooding all the time, HOT winters, we have had snow in June...this is not a natural change, this is too dramatic to be a fluke.

I, for one, have been ultra aware of my carbon footprint in the past year. I recycle everything, drive an economical car, don't put my heating on unneccessarily and don't fly anywhere that I can drive to.

It hardly seems worth it though, when you get arragant @' holes driving SUV's that do 10 miles per gallon and kick out tons of crap ever inch they drive...I am saving the planet for these selfish people...And it's these people that will say "damn liberal" to people like me....cos people that use that expression ( according to me, an none liberal British person) are usually extremely right wing and showing signs of being a fashist. (IE: Bush)

Because people in Antarctica are selfishly working on their tans!

And because our Administration lied, and pulled out of the Brazil
Global Ecology summits..saying "this here global warming is still
not proven and we're gonna smoke out the truth.." and a whole lot of Lockstep Zombie Republicans believe every word out of that God-consultin' pious man's mouth, because they're being duped. And until he prays some more about it and announces it to be so, it ain't!

Many are conservatives who take their ideology to a ridiculous extreme. If liberals, environmentalists, or, even worse, Al Gore says something, it simply must be wrong. No matter how many scientists are also saying it.

They would do well to listen to Newt:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

To some extent, it's a case of people who are hysterical speaking some truth. It is true that some people I would consider wackos or extremists talk a lot about global warming. I think people therefore tend to associate the idea with the most crazed, extreme, vociferous peope they hear talk about it, which makes them think it must be total nonsense.

I'm still waiting on the ice age they forecast in the 70's. You get a little skeptical after a while.

Realistically, there is not much we can do about it unless we knock off about 3 billion or more people. The root of the problem is population and it's demand for resources. If it keeps growing ........

Multiple Reasons:

a) It forces people to make sacrifices that they don't want to make.
b) Big corporations are spending serious money spewing mis-information about it because it impacts their profitability.

Combine the two and you have a serious case of denial.

The earth goes through trends that last a long time. If you do some research, about 20 or 30 years ago, everyone was afraid of global cooling.

Maybe because they don't ACCTUALLY see it happening. You ever heard the proverb "Believe nothing you hear. And half of what you see." Or something like that. It's a very serious problem.

Peace and Happiness.
