yes to your first question and no to your second question

They need a filter to servive, without that you won't have any oxygen in your water
If you buy other mollies, wait until your little one is at least 6 weeks old

Hope that helps
Good luck

They might live for a short while without a filter but you really do need to have a filter and a heater. If you want healthy, happy Mollies you should have a good filter, heater and add some salt (1 teaspoon per gallon) to the water. The only Molly that doesn't really need salt is the Silver Molly.

Mollys are not able to breathe from the surface so they need something to break the surface tension to get oxygen from the water. A filter is very helpful because it breaks the surface tension and it is also a prime location for beneficial bacteria to grow. Don't take the mollys if you don't have a filter or they will be dead soon.

I would not put the baby in with full grown mollies one will eat the baby. We always put the babys in a special net thing for babies.

normally yes, at least to agitate the surface which lets oxygen get in the water. What size tank?
