I was wondering, where does it say in the bible that homosexuality is an abomination? I've heard that it's there, but I wouldn't know where to start looking.

I have a friend who is Christian, but he happens to be gay. But because of his strong belief, he doesn't act upon his desires. He is worried that he may be punished for his sexuality when his judgment day comes. I try to console him, but it worries me too.

And a note to those who think that homosexuality is a choice: He didn't chose this, he wants more thanever to be the the way God intended, but he just doesn't have desires for women.

Please give the bible answers only. No homosexual 'opinions', please.
I was just curious. Thank you.

It's in the Book of Leviticus, 20:13. But you really can't just read that and get the full meaning. You need to take things like time, place, culture, etc. into account in order to see what it's really talking about. As a gay Christian, I don't believe it has anything to do with gay people as we know them today. If you study it, it seems to be referring to same-sex acts with temple prostitutes which was something that was done back then in pagan religious rituals. Moreover, many things prohibited in Leviticus are overlooked or ignored by anti-gay Christians so you have to wonder what their real motives are to be so concerned with one thing in Leviticus. Read all of Leviticus to see what I mean.

You and your gay friend need to look at both sides of the issue. And you need to pray and ask God to send the Holy Spirit to guide you both to understanding. Thousands and thousands of Christians--gay and straight--have done that and come to the conclusion that being gay is not a sin.

For starters, I urge you to check out this site: soulforce.com. Go to the "Resources" area at the top and check out "What the Bible says" therein. You do not have to order a copy of the booklet, you can read the entire thing online in either pdf or html format. Good luck and may God bless you and your friend.

Somewhere in Leviticus,

It states "Man shall not lay with a man, as he would a woman."

And I know you said no opinions, but I can't pass up the opportunity. Why does it not mention women in that passage, why only men? Its not truly an anti-homosexual passage unless it includes all same sex relationships in the spectrum. Its in the bible for purely medical purposes. Think about it, in the bronze age when the bible was written, condoms and lubricant were not available, making anal sex (The most stereotypical sexual activity between gay men) dangerous, which is why its written in the bible. Its hardly spiritual. But now a day, anal sex can be practiced in a totally safe fashion.

The Bibles fairly outdated.....

If he wants more then ever to be what God intended, then doesn't it mean he's choosing to be an in the closet gay man? I'm confused as to what you want to hear. He knows what the bible says, ask him where it is. I'm sure he knows exactally where it is, and should be able to show you. Good for him for not acting on his desires ( another choice). That means he wants to put God first in his life instead of his sexual choices. I commend him for knowing what he wants for himself. Why don't you be a friend, and stop trying to make him into what you want him to be. I'm pretty sure you nagging him about this all the time is really making things soo much easier for him. Be a good friend and keep quite. let him live his life the way he is living it, and go get a life of your own. Here is the scripture you wanted: Leviticus 18:22

If you want to read anti gay rants , try leviticus , um I think deuteronomy has some , uh , kings , theres a few other parts , the new test has some , after the gospels part . Basically Jehovah orders gays to be killed in the marketplace with rocks , and He wants the whole town to participate . Women who act uppity need to get killed too , so saith DE LAWD .

religioustolerance.org has some great information I suggest you pass along to him. There are many flavors of Christianity. It's possible to be "in a gay lifestyle" and be Christian.

It's in Leviticus, right between the laws that declare disobedience to parents to be an abomination as well as planting two kinds of seed in the same field.

It saddens me to see you friend suffer...If he believes the Abrahamic God is the only one, I can respect him, but remember that Abraham and Jesus were both told that they were disobeying their religions when they had, and spoke of, direct experiences with God.

I'd have him search his heart, and remember that religions evolve; slavery is perfectly OK in the Bible too, as long as we enslave Canadians or Mexicans. See my point?

Leviticus 18:22
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

I would like to tell you that your friend is going through what is called in the bible, " the war between the spirit and the flesh" it's normal for a Christian to go on like that.

But with maturity, your friend must try to remember that God knows what is going on, and will deal with it IN HIS TIME.

I know that Christianity seems to be especially harsh to those who are Gay and such, I myself am Bisexual. I get it whenever they get me cornered. But I have grown in my walk with God and am confident that if I look to Him, I am doing better than many of those others who are trained by their own pastors to look at others.

What we have gained by being Christian is peace with God. It's all the world, the flesh, and the devil can do to squash that relationship. So beating up on ourselves is a great way to get it done. We can get so upset with ourselves and forget that our peace comes from God.

So your friend ought to remember that God didn't call us to give us anguish, God called us to live in peace with Him.

If I can be of any help to him, please let me know.

The bible does not condemn the homosexual. It only forbids homosexual activity: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind; it is an abomination" Leviticus XVIII, verse 22

You can find it in Leviticus ( thats the famous one). In most bibles they have a glossary in the back. If you look for homosexuality it'll tell you were it's mentioned.
