hi. name's nadia. i'm 18 yrs old. i'm feeling really hurt... yesterday, my bro and i were at home, in our office room...my dad was on the computer and we both were just sitting by him...well my dad and i started talking about me getting my real estate license and stuff...however, my bro started joking and making fun of me...saying that i wasn't sure about my future...well, i turned around and said "just wait till i start making millions"...then my dad hears this comment, turns around and looks at me right in the eye, and says "how can u make millions of dollars when you don't even have a brain..."

that comment really hurted my feelings...my dad and my younger bro (he's 15yrs old) never leave any opportunity to humiliate and ridicule me...my mom, on the other hand, supports me and my dreams...

i get the point that at this point i am a little unsure about my dreams and plans for the future, but heck, i'm only 18...sumtimes i wish i could just tell my dad to cut me some slack ;(

My dad and brother used to do that to me all the time...still do, and I am much older than you. I think it's just their way of joking with you--however wrong they may be. You need to tell your dad how you feel. I am positive he was just doing some lighthearted joking. (or so he thought)

Sorry to hear that. I used to go through that same sort of stuff. I could tell you stories about stuff like that that would spin your head. All I can say is believe in yourself and don't let anyone put you down or stop you from obtaining your goals in life.

Why don't you discuss this with him? Maybe he doesn't realize how much it does hurt you. Trust me, I have an 18 year old daughter myself.

don't take everything so personal! if you believe in a dream and work hard. go for it and never let anyone let you down! YOU DECIDE YOUR FUTURE!
