If the reception of the black and white television is so blurred and unclear you may say zebras appear like horses and you may not differentiate a zebra from a horse. However, if the reception is clear, without any doubt you will figure out which is zebra and which is horse.

While many if not most younger people will never have experienced black and white tv, this shouldn't stop you from using logic!
Black and white TV is to colour TV as black and white still photography is to colour photography.
Newspapers still use mainly black and white photography so you should have seen an example.
Think about what a photo of a zebra in a newspaper would look like. You would still clearly see the stripes and identify it as a zebra and not a horse. The same is true for on tv.

Do not believe everything you read on the net. Trust me on this one.
I watched the show Daktari in a black and white TVs in the 1970's, also many Tarzan movies and TV shows. A zebra looked like a zebra not like a horse in b/w TV similar to what do you see now in Madadascar.

I suspect you either misunderstood what you were reading or the writer misunderstood what he or she was trying to translate from what they were told.
In most old movies where someone was riding a 'zebra it was actually a horse painted with black and white stripes. This is because it is easier and less risky to train horses than zebras. Yes I know some people ride zebras but they are not domestic animals and have a very keen flight or fight response which often turns to fight. In fact more zookeepers are killed by zebras than any toher animal.

Uh, you know in black and white tv, they're still black and white striped which looks nothing like a horse. Kinda obvious there. Besides, zebras don't look anything like a horse anyway. They do resemble donkeys and mules with their upright manes and tail tuft and their rather convex faces.

No...the black parts look black and the white parts look white. You can still see the contrast in the stripes. This is why you should not believe everything you hear on the net.

What???
Zebras ARE black and white! Why would they be anything but black and white on black & white TV? Of course you can still see their stripes.
