Children are at the risk of SIDS until the age of one...so definetly not before then. But like the others said I never gave any of my kids pillows until they were in a toddler bed at 2.

I gave my daughter a pillow at 18 months, but I would have preferred to wait longer. She knew that Mommy and Daddy slept with one, and one night decided that she needed one too. There was a lot of screaming and tantrum throwing for the first few nights until I gave in, and now she sleeps like an angel, and has been for 9 months now. She also moved into a toddler bed really early too. My son however, (18 months in a few weeks) is NOWHERE ready for a pillow or a toddler bed and I don't think that he will be for a while longer. I believe it is up to the parent, and the child.

I agree with the first two posters. I moved my daughter into a toddler bed at age 2.5 and I gave her a pillow then.

My mom gave me my first full-size pillow at age 4. I had smaller ones once I was in a regular bed though

my son is 11 months old, i just now put one in his bed. when he was sick recently the only way he would sleep is if it was on a pillow in my bed. so i put a pillow in his bed. he sleeps laying on top of it every night.

The SIDS Alliance says not before 12 months of age. I followed this rule and would suggest everyone does. Why take any chances??

around 2yrs old is the right age. They need to be out of the crib and very mobile, before they are ready for that.

Not until they are moved into a toddler bed, which in most cases is at two or a little after.
