legally the Japanese can kill the whale for "scienctific research" (in fact, their "research" is on how killing them control populations of other marine species, sick right?). Anyway, this permission is granted by the International Whaling Commission, which every year votes on granting this permission. Every year, this vote is close. What we need to do is to lobby other countries to vote against this "scientific research" and to also join the IWC. Letting them know that people are very concerned about this helps. I recommend you join Greenpeace and get info from there about which countries are for or against the whaling. Remember, you bit counts.

I think you have too much time on your hands and need to get a life. Grow up, find a husband and stop worrying about the whales. If Greenpeace could not stop whale hunting, what makes you think you could?
You may find this hard to believe, but there are a lot more important things in this world than saving whales.

right here is the deal. Japan kills an allowed form of whales (someplace around 500 in step with year?)and pretends it particularly is scientific learn. Anti-whaling people (selectively) protest whaling, and pretend that the main important species that are hunted are nevertheless endangered (minke whales are no longer endangered) If all people might quit pretending, perhaps a extra advantageous answer must be chanced on. Many jap merely hate foreigners telling them what to do. Others savor the flavor of whale. Others say that Japan needless to say has a convention of whaling, different peoples are allowed to work together in whaling for nutrition because of the fact of tribal traditions, yet Japan technically isn't. Why no longer? Japan merely needs a single usual for each man or woman. much extra ironic are the theories that the interior of reach peoples in Alaska and Canada who have interaction in whaling are distant descendants of jap whalers. the two factors pretend. "scientific whaling" is the only compromise conceivable while one facet demands a entire end to all whaling, even for non-endangered whales. needless to say, there is the argument that whales are sensible, that's arguable. this may be stated of loads of animals, in spite of the undeniable fact that; and it boils right down to the vegetarianism debate, which i think of is a fashion of life decision, no longer a foundation for a regulation utilising to all people. The searching to "extinction" argument is now no longer a valid concern while the species are not endangered, there is now no longer a call for for whale oil, and there are quotas on whaling. BTW, I consume whale sushi from time to time, to me, it tastes like a pass between lean tuna(maguro) and beef.

I was reading up on this subject a few months back. In the article, I read where many many groups were attacking the Japanese Diet for allowing whale killings. When this disolved in my mind a few moments I began to think of the Japanese society as a whole. For centuries the Japanese have relied mainly on the consumption of seafood as a staple in their diet. Who are we to ask them to stop? European whaling was the main cause in destroying the whale population and not for food but for their lard and the oil contained in it. Why should they have to change their diets to fit our sins? That would be equal to them asking us to stop slaughtering millions of cows a year simply because they killed significant amounts of their own population.
Whales are majestic, beautiful, and intelligent animals. They should be saved againt mindless poaching. But at the same time, we should be mindful of who we blame and only ask sensible requests of our neighbors in the far Pacific.

Spread a rumor that the antarctic whales are infected with a virus that renders humans impotent. No market for whale meat = no more whaling.

Unlike the common belief, for 6 years in Japan, now my 7th, I've never ever seen whale meat or anything made of killed whale.
The symbol of the city i live is a whale.
And of all troubles on Earth, why would you give priority to killed whales and bash Japan on that, while thousands of cats and dogs are killed for our vanity. Do you use lipstick?Eyeshadow and foundation?
Well, stop using them, stop eating meat (any meat, including fish!), stop using any product tested on animals, stop using air conditioner and move mostly by bicycle, not by car, donate 1/3 of your income to the starving children in Africa and to the hospitals and schools in poor countries, and then come back and bash Japan. ONLY THEN you'll have the right to do it!

What types of whale are they hunting? If they are Minkie whales, we have an overabundance of them and they need to be culled. They are bottom feeders and have inflicted havoc on the Cod supplies off the Canadian coast and in the fjords of Norway.
But, I'll make an offer. You folks make hunting and killing the kangaroo illegal and you might convince others that some species are considered sacrosanct when it comes to hunting them.

why do you want to deny the Japanese's their food supply, why don't you stop raising cattle if you are so concerned, they do far greater damage to the earth, and once the earth becomes uninhabitable, the whales are done for anyway.
