What's the best way to fix Social Security?

Relieve Congress of the responsibility of overseeing it. Right now Social Security takes in more than it pays out, the rest is going to buy government bonds, which are loans to the government. So in other words, Social Security money is paying for welfare, NASA, the War in Iraq, etc.

Congress refuses to address this issue so when the bonds come due, Social Security will be paid out of the general funds. If Bush really wanted to deal with this issue he would never have cut taxes in 2001, using the surplus to create private accounts with Social Seurity money and taken it out of the Government hands and put it in the people's. Bush failed this and now it is becoming too late to deal with this cheaply. Any solution will be expensive and require a tax increase. Remember all the funds we have paid into it we would all like to have credit for, and that money has been spent.

Fix it, for me raise gas taxes to create more revenue as we give the people their money into accounts, of their choosing, to invest like a 401(k) or IRA. Then each person has control over their own money and it is out of the politicians hands. We need to be realistic, the government will have to regulate the money because some people will spend the money and become wards of the state in their final years.

This is an idea anyway.

well it depends in which way. there are so many different issues. I think Social security numbers shouldnt be used on anything other than your Tax returns and your social security benefits application and Medicare. I think the govt needs to hire more analysts , expand their offices in large cities, allow satiellite office or live visits in outlying areas. update their computer system to one that will allow continual update and system upgrades. People should get anal injections to perk up and smile from the employees there. People should be trained to give each applicant a specific spcheel about what is to be expected and how long and what specifically is needed. alot of trouble is that Drs these days dont wanna fill out a decent report on disability and that the processors take too long. I think they should seperate medicare and cut costs ,a nd not use prisoners to take social security reports in some states!

1) Kick off all the illegals that collect a check.
2) Kick all the people off the program that aren't retired.
3) Kick off all the people sucking on this government teat that are collecting for a disability or other reason other than retirement.
4) Put the politicians on the same Social Security program and they will fix it.
